Bolton calls death of Hamas leader ‘a good day for the whole world’

Former White House national security adviser John Bolton said Thursday was “a good day for the whole world” following the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

“Well, it’s a good day for the whole world that this particular terrorist, who was responsible for planning the October 7 attack on Israel, got his comeuppance, and I think this opens up a lot of possibilities here,” he said. Bolton to NewsNation’s Blake Burman. interview about ‘De Heuvel’.

Sinwar was the architect of the October 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas last year, which started the current war in the Middle East. According to the Israeli army, he was killed on Thursday during an Israeli military operation in Gaza.

“He was the best-known Hamas leader still involved in the struggle in Gaza,” Bolton said. “There are many Hamas leaders who are elsewhere, in Doha and other places in the Middle East, although they may be in hiding at the moment. So I think this really gives Israel an opportunity to finish off Hamas in the Gaza Strip.”

President Biden congratulated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the country’s assassination of Sinwar.

“There is now the opportunity for oneday after in Gaza without Hamas in power, and for a political settlement that offers a better future for both Israelis and Palestinians,” Biden said in a Thursday statement. “Yahya Sinwar was an insurmountable obstacle to achieving all these goals. That obstacle no longer exists. But there is still a lot of work ahead of us.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Thursday in a post on the social platform

“His death brings hope to all who want to live in freedom, and relief to the Israelis he tried to oppress,” Johnson added.
