Racing returns to Redwood Acres Raceway Friday and Saturday this week in conjunction with the Redwood Acres Fair, which opened Wednesday.

It is the second race weekend this season, but the first with races on both Friday and Saturday. Friday is the Craig Perrone Memorial Fair Night at the track, with the Late Models, the Legends, the Bombers and the Mini Stocks all in action, with races starting at 6pm.

Friday’s races will honor the late Craig Perrone, an alumnus of Eureka High School and Humboldt State University and owner of DelReka Distributing. Perrone was loved by many of the local racers before his passing in 2021. Perrone sponsored several racing teams and drivers at the race track through DelReka Distributing.

On Saturday, the Legends, the Bombers and the Boat Races will all take center stage during the second night of racing at the fair, which also has a start time of 6pm. Saturday is the only event of the season at Redwood Acres with boat racing on the calendar, giving fans just one chance to experience the spectacle in 2024.

The last time Luke Hall was victorious in the Late Model feature with Brandon White winning the Legends race. Jeremy Doss won in the Upstate Bomber division, while Derek Duke took first place in the Mini Stocks.

Tickets to the Redwood Acres Fair get you access to the grandstands for this weekend’s races.

While racing stops on Saturday, the fun at the fair continues with the 2024 Exceptional Rodeo held Sunday morning at the fairgrounds. The rodeo starts at 11 a.m. and includes rodeo games, prizes, carnival rides and a free lunch.

At the Exceptional Rodeo, children and people with disabilities can join in the fun. This year’s Exceptional Rodeo is sponsored by Humboldt Sponsors, a charitable organization serving Humboldt County youth since 1962. Humboldt Sponsors distributed more than $100,000 in 2024 alone.

“We look forward to this event every year,” said Kim Cobine, president of Humboldt Sponsors. “We hope you’ll join us in showing support for the exceptional cowboys and cowgirls as they enjoy an action-packed day of western fun.”

The 2024 Exceptional Rodeo is open to all ages and disabilities and runs until Sunday at 2 p.m. All participants and one companion receive free access to the fair gate. They can register for the Exceptional Rodeo by calling Redwood Acres at 707-445-3037. Late registration will also be accepted during the event on Sunday.
