BMW Championship: Scottie Scheffler says he’s ‘fine’, not injured

Scottie Scheffler stood on the fairway on the par-5 17th hole with a 5-iron in his hand, hoping to make birdie on the penultimate hole of the BMW Championship.

But immediately after his swing, Scheffler grabbed his lower back, something we’ve seen Tiger Woods do far too often over the past decade. Of course, Scheffler’s remarkable season has led many to draw comparisons to Tiger. But those comparisons aren’t being made because of injuries, but because of his impressive victories.

Still, Scheffler says he feels good.

“Yeah, it’s good,” Scheffler said.

“I woke up this morning a little stiff. I had a hard time getting it loose. Because it was a little tight, I had a hard time getting through it and I struggled most of the day to get the ball through. On 17, I tried to hit a high draw and that’s a shot where I really have to make a big turn, a big movement. I just felt it a little bit. But other than that, everything is good.”

Scheffler added that he would not be doing anything special regarding his recovery on Thursday night.

“Maybe I hit a few too many balls yesterday or something,” Scheffler added.

“It was just a little sore. I’m sure I’ll put some ice on it and stuff. I’ll be fine (Friday).”

The world No. 1 made par on the 17th hole, a disappointing score considering it is one of the easiest holes on the course. He could not get up and down from the front of the green, almost 30 yards from the hole, where he left his 5-iron.

Scheffler then missed a 9-foot birdie on 18 to finish 1-under 69.

After the first day he is five points behind Keegan Bradley, the 2025 Ryder Cup captain, who started with a score of 66 (-6).
