Blues get backing to get approval for Earl’s Court stadium

Despite the huge unrest on and off the pitch at Chelsea, the west London club are still making progress.

The Blues have changed beyond recognition in recent seasons, but thanks to the business acumen of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali they have remained reasonably competitive and continue to buy the best players in their class when possible.

Chelsea could leave Stamford Bridge

Commercially, it seems that there is still much room for improvement at the club, and perhaps the most important decision is whether or not Chelsea should leave Stamford Bridge.

That’s something former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes the club would get approval for and it would almost certainly be a game changer for the club.

“I don’t see any problem with Chelsea and an infrastructure project like a (new) stadium“, Wyness told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

“There will be a whole line of people waiting to do that.

“Certainly, Todd Boehly or Clearlake – who are not exactly a happy family right now – would have the resources to do a big project like this.

“Earl’s Court has been talked about as a location for years and that makes sense,But with that location it certainly won’t be cheap.

“The inconvenience for traffic and residents will be enormous. But upgrading Stamford Bridge is just too difficult to do.”

It is not clear which site in Earl’s Court would be considered as a potential location for a new stadium, but Wyness says it would cause a huge stir among locals.

However, if the Blues really want to be among the world’s best, they will have to explore that option.

Selling Stamford Bridge would likely earn the club a fair bit of money, which would offset the costs the club would otherwise have to incur in building a new stadium.
