Blue-chip EDGE, son of ex-NFL LB, is committed to Penn State football

Penn State football continues its strong run in the 2025 recruiting cycle with another major rebound along the defensive front. On Monday, James Franklin and the Nittany Lions defeated Oklahoma and Texas A&M due to the use of four-star Texas edge rusher Max Granville.

Granville then makes his decision a visit to Happy Valley on the weekend of May 31. From Fort Bend Christian Academy in Sugar Land, Texas, the edge rusher also made official visits to Baylor (April 26), Texas A&M (June 14) and Oklahoma (June 21).

Granville’s recruitment takes a wild turn

Through the early parts of the 2025 recruiting cycle, Max Granville was locked in a neck-and-neck battle between Oklahoma and Texas A&M. He has been keeping a crystal ball on the Sooners on 247Sports since January, while the Aggies have been the leader in On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine since May 14.

Following his visit to Norman this weekend, Oklahoma emerged as the clear favorite to commit Granville, earning him a Crystal Ball James Jackson, 247Sports Oklahoma insider and regaining the lead in the RPM from On3.

However, Granville’s recruitment took a notable turn in favor of James Franklin and Penn State football on Monday afternoon. The Nittany Lions earned predictions of four On3 analysts – Steve Wiltfong, Derek Young, Josh McCuistion and Ryan Snyder of Blue-White Illustrated – while also receiving a crystal ball from Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247.

Max Granville is a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 19 linebacker in the 2025 recruiting cycle according to On3’s Industry Rankings. A top 200 national recruit, Granville is the son of former NFL linebacker Billy Granville, who played four seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The elder Granville played collegiately at Duke in the mid-1990s new Penn State football defensive analyst Jeff McInerney was the Blue Devils’ defensive coordinator.

It’s best not to blink or you might miss a new addition to Penn State’s 2025 recruiting class.

James Franklin and the Nittany Lions have grown their class sizes exponentially this month and have now added seven new commitments since June 10.

The majority of the newest Nittany Lions additions have been on the defensive side of the ball, especially the secondary. However, Max Granville will participate recently committed four-star Cortez Harristhe top defensive end in Maryland, to help create the next wave of the Penn State pass rush.

Before Granville’s commitment, Penn State Football had the No. 15 recruiting class in the country according to On3, while 247Sports ranks the Nittany Lions at No. 11 nationally.
