Blaze Riorden enters top 10 of all-time saves list after Chaos victory

Before the Carolina Chaos took the field Friday night to take on the Maryland Whipsnakes, Blaze Rivers was ranked 11th on the all-time saves list.

After 11 saves in the first half, he took over tenth place in the overall standings.

This is the rescue that got him started:

After this save, Blaze continued to improve and helped Chaos’ defense hold Whipsnakes’ offense to zero for over 10 minutes.

“You can’t shoot the ball at Blaze’s feet, and we did that a lot tonight,” Whipsnakes head coach Jim Stagnitta said.

The fun didn’t begin for Riorden until he made seven more saves in the second half and overtime to lead the Chaos to a 10-9 victory in Fairfield.

“He’s like an alien in the cage,” Carolina head coach Andy Towers noted. “It’s unbelievable how many saves he makes.”

His 18 saves in the game moved him up to 9th all-time, further cementing Oren Lyons’ four-time GOAT status as Goaltender of the Year.

“He’s obsessed with winning, and you won’t find a guy who’s less impressed with himself than someone who should be impressed with himself,” Towers said. “He’s always consistent at a position that’s probably the hardest position in sports to be consistent at.”

The Chaos will have to continue to rely on Riorden’s stellar play in their bid for the play-offs.
