Billy Corgan doesn’t mince words, I once asked him if he had fallen on his head

Joe Alonzo is as direct as Billy Corgan.

In 2022, Joe Alonzo made his debut for the National Wrestling Alliance, where he later became the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion. He left the company earlier this year.

When Alonzo was asked about his relationship with NWA owner Billy Corgan, he responded as follows.

“I’ve always liked Billy. He’s a little weird, and I’ve told Billy this to himself, he’s a really weird guy. But he’s been famous since he was 19, so I get it. What I like is that Billy is very blunt. Like a very blunt person, so he doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Whatever’s on his mind, he says it. That irritates people, (but) not me. Sometimes I think he doesn’t know, I don’t think he’s as smart in our world as he thinks he is. I say this, sometimes Billy would say things to me, I’m like, ‘Oh, I like Billy.’ Then Billy would say other things. I’m like, ‘Did you fall on your head? Who’s getting hit, me or you?’ He told me, I can’t tell you who was in on this conversation, but he said, ‘I don’t know, I think it comes down to who’s going to earn the next title shot for Colby Corino. It’s between you and some other wrestler.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ He says, ‘I haven’t decided if it’s going to be you or him. I think he’s doing great right now, he’s way better than you.’ I looked at him and I was like, ‘Are you okay?’ I said to him straight up, ‘That’s cool. I get that that’s your opinion, but your opinion is wrong. You’re wrong.’ I know that’s crazy to say that to your boss, but I’m sorry, you’re wrong. You’re crazy to think that.’ I think he respected that I was very honest with my opinion about things. I think the people who were listening to him didn’t like that I was honest. Maybe that’s true of most companies, but at least NWA, I don’t think they like it when people talk back, and I don’t think it’s talking back. If you read the contract, it says in the contracts that it’s a partnership. I’m not your employee. I don’t get health care, I don’t get benefits. So I’m not your employee. We’re a partnership, and we’re in this together. So if I think something would be better this way, I’m not saying we should do that, I’m just making a suggestion. Don’t be offended that I’m making a suggestion. But it was just weird,” said Alonzo.

Alonzo went on to say that he and Corgan have a good relationship and that he thinks the two would get along well no matter what.
