Biles is making his debut at the Paris Olympics, while Peaty has his sights set on a swimming milestone

Simone Biles makes her long-awaited debut at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, while British breaststroke champion Adam Peaty will be aiming to emulate Michael Phelps in the pool.

The United States will bid for a fifth consecutive men’s basketball title against Serbia, which will feature three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic.

However, there are serious questions about Rafael Nadal’s participation in the singles at Roland Garros after he won the opening match of the men’s doubles together with Carlos Alcaraz.

Nadal is still scheduled to play Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics on Sunday, while Novak Djokovic is lurking. But the 14-time Roland Garros champion, who has a thigh injury, said: “I don’t know yet if I’m going to play tomorrow or not.”

After rain marred the opening ceremony on Friday and the first full day of action on Saturday, organizers will be pleased with the forecast of sunny, dry weather for the second day.

Gold medals can be won in the disciplines of shooting, mountain biking, skateboarding, archery, canoeing, fencing and swimming.

But it is American gymnast Biles who will be the centre of attention in the French capital as she seeks to burnish her Olympic legacy.

Biles, who won four gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics, withdrew from several events at the Tokyo Games after struggling with the disorienting condition gymnasts call “twisties.”

Still, she took home silver and bronze and received praise for her candid conversations about her mental health issues.

After a two-year absence, Biles made a triumphant comeback at the US Classics last year, followed by four world titles, bringing her total to an astonishing 23.

The United States team is eager to take the pressure off the 27-year-old Biles.
