Bike route along County Road 50 completed

A federal investment will make cycling safer on County Road 50 in the town of Essex.

The city has constructed 5.7 kilometres of paved shoulders from County Road 41 to Dahinda Drive. The $2.7 million project was completed with funding from the County of Essex and Canada’s National Active Transportation Strategy, the Active Transportation Fund.

“We’ve completed the trail, the County Road 50 trail that everyone wanted. It’s been on our list, on our radar for a while, but it was a lot of money. We had some help and we got it done, so it’s time to get active in Essex,” said Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy.

Now that this section of the trail is complete, cyclists can safely ride along the Erie North Shore, between Amherstburg and Point Pelee.

“County Road 50 is an absolute gem. So many people from Windsor and Essex County come through this area to go to wineries, to visit the county, to go to beaches,” said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk. “This is such a huge tourist draw and now, under the leadership of Mayor Bondy, this area is safer.”

Rest areas, benches and signage for travelers will also be placed along the route.
