Bicycle Rodeo Emphasizes Safety – Terrace Standard

Safety was paramount on July 13, when several members of Terrace’s emergency services gathered at the Sportsplex to check on the young cyclists and their bikes.

Young cyclists were put through an obstacle course to learn how to turn and stop safely. Mechanics from The Fix inspected their bikes, the Northern Brain Injury Association taught them the importance of wearing a helmet and they were introduced to 529 Garage, an online bike identification system.

In attendance were members of the BC Conservation Officer Service, the Terrace RCMP, the Terrace Fire Department, the Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department, the provincial ambulance service, Terrace bylaw officers, and Terrace Search and Rescue.

This event would not be possible without the time given by our local first responders and the contributions of local businesses in the community, said Cst Kelly Cates of the Terrace RCMP. I am so grateful for everyone who is willing to invest their time to make this event happen again and again.

Kaitlyn Almas and her sister Allison Mack won a bicycle donated by Canadian Tire.

Bikes are registered with 529 Garage, including photos. This way, owners can easily be contacted if the bikes are lost and are recovered or found after theft.
