Best practices to generate energy in Satisfactory

Power and energy are the building blocks of Satisfactory. You can’t grow into bigger and better tools and resources if you don’t have enough power to run your factory. But what are the best power sources in the game? Let’s find out.

The full release of Satisfactory has been met with much positive feedback from existing players and new players alike, with developer Coffee Stain Studios adding several new features and improving older ones. While there is still more to be added to the game, such as the use of SAM ore, Satisfactory 1.0 will keep players busy for a while.

With the huge influx of new “pioneers” that have brought the number of players in the game to record heights, the opportunity arises to learn its basic functions. One of these is learning how to power a factory in the most efficient way.

Sufficient power generators, ranked from worst to best

Satisfactory has five options available to players when it comes to energy generation, and they’re all important at some point. So to help you out, we’ve ranked them all below.

5) Biomass burner

The Biomass Burner is the first power generator you build in your home. Satisfactory. Unlike other generators, it has no input, so you have to refill it manually. These generators are powered by the following:

  • Extraterrestrial remains
  • Extraterrestrial organs
  • Solid biofuel
  • Packaged liquid biofuel
  • Alien Carapace
  • Biomass
  • Wood
  • Dust
  • Mycelium
  • To leaf through

Biomass burners are unlocked at Level zero as part of HUB Upgrade Six. They produce up to 30MW of power.

4) Coal generator

Coal generators are unlocked at Level threegiving players access to their first fully automated energy source in Satisfactory and pave the way for faster production and growth. As the name suggests, these generators burn coal to produce power for your factory.

To keep your coal generator fueled and your factory powered, you will need one of the following materials:

  • Coal
  • Compressed coal
  • Petroleum coke

You also need to combine these ingredients with water, which you can transport to your generator using water extractors. Coal generators have a maximum power output value of 75 MW.

3) Fuel generator

The fuel generator can be unlocked at Level sixafter you complete the Tier Five Oil Processing and Fluid Transfer milestones, among others. It can generate energy by burning three types of fuel:

  • Fuel
  • Turbo fuel
  • Liquid biofuel

Fuel generators can produce up to 250 MWand can be boosted or “overclocked” using Power Shards.

2) Geothermal generator

The Geothermal Generator is a bit different from its counterparts, as it is not unlocked by completing the many Tier milestones in the game. You must unlock it with Category Researchwhich is only accessible on the MAM (Molecular Analysis Machine).

Once you have researched it, you need to find geysers to place it on, as this is the only source of fuel. No other materials are needed to facilitate the geothermal generator, as it generates power. Speaking of power generation, you need to choose your geysers carefully, as the amount of power generated depends on how pure a geyser is. Therefore, it can come from anywhere 50 MW to a huge 600 MW.

1) Nuclear power plant

The King of Satisfactory energy generation, the nuclear power plant, can be opened up on Level eight. It outperforms every other energy source in the game by hundreds of megawatts, generating a gigantic 2500 MW at maximum capacity. It is understandable that players will likely use nuclear power plants towards the end of the game.

Nuclear power plants can be fueled by two types of fuel rods: Satisfactory:

  • Uranium fuel rods
  • Plutonium fuel rods

You also need to combine water with the fuel rods, so make sure you bring your water extractors when building and placing your nuclear power plants. Also be aware of the byproducts they produce, namely uranium waste and plutonium waste. The latter is useless, while Uranium scrap is used in some Tier Eight crafting recipes.

Satisfactory gives you the tools to better manage your factory with each Tier, allowing you to respond to its needs. While the more advanced energy sources in the game may take some time to achieve, they can help expand your power grid and increase efficiency at every point.
