Eleven players have worn #39, and to be honest, there wasn’t that much of a selection here. David Perron was #39, but his career didn’t take off in Pittsburgh, and he was only there for a year before being traded.

So there is clearly a favorite, and it just so happens to be the player currently wearing the Penguins’ jersey: Alex Nedeljkovic.

Nedeljkovic has been with the Penguins for one season (2023-24). While he spent most of the season as the team’s backup goalie, he fought hard in the second half of the season, playing in almost every game in the final stretch.

And in that final stretch — which nearly propelled the Penguins to the playoffs but fell just short — he went 9-1-3 with a .902 SV%.

To the surprise of many, Nedeljkovic re-signed with the Penguins for two more years this summer, replacing starting goalie Tristan Jarry at the end of the season, so it will be interesting to see how they split time next season.

So far in his career, Nedeljkovic has a GAA of 2.96 and an SV% of 906.
