Best Counters and Builds to Beat 7-Star Dragonite Tera Raids in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The seven-star Dragonite Tera Raid event is now live in Pokémon Scarlet And Violetand it’s once again a tough battle, just like the previous Unrivaled raids.

From Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 PM CT through Sunday, September 1 at 6:59 PM CT, you can challenge seven-star Dragonite Tera Raids in Gen IX Pokémon games. Defeating the Tera Raid will give you the chance to capture the beloved dragon with the Mightiest Mark. However, defeating this Dragonite will not be easy without some preparation and the right counter.

Here’s what you need to know about the seven-star Dragon Tera Raid and how to beat it Scarlet And Violet.

How to Beat the Unparalleled Dragonite Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The key to defeating Unrivaled Dragonite is to bring a Pokémon that can hit it for super-effective damage while absorbing a lot of hits. We’ll go over Dragonite’s type, Tera Type, weaknesses, and moveset to determine the best counter.

What type is Unrivaled Dragonite?

As you might expect from the name and the wings, Dragonite naturally has the Dragon/Flying typingbut it will also Normal Tera type for this event. The Normal Tera Type gives Dragonite only one weakness, Fighting. and an immunity to Ghost. Offensively, watch out for Normal Tera-boosted attacks like Extreme Speed.

What moves does Unrivaled Dragonite have?

This Dragonite is a mixed Scarlet And Violet attacker with both physical and special moves. The physical moves are Extreme Speed, Scale Shot, and Earthquake, while the special moves are Draco Meteor, Hurricane, and Thunder. It also has Rain Dance to set up rain and Dragon Dance for boosts in Attack and Speed.

Displacements

  • Extreme speed
  • Scale shot

  • Earthquake

Extra moves

Best Counter for the Unrivaled Dragonite Tera Raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

I found the best counter for the Unrivaled Dragonite Tera Raid event: Orthworm as it can use its fantastic physical size to absorb massive blows and perform powerful Body Presses for super effective damage.

If you’re not a fan of the worm yet, you soon will be; Orthworm has all the qualities that make it a perfect counter to Dragonite, with its Steel typing, good size, and access to Body Press.

Since Orthworm is a pure Steel-type Pokémon, it resists all of Unrivaled Dragonite’s attacks except Thunder. It is supposedly weak to Earthquake, but the worm’s signature Earth Eater ability turns that weakness into immunity and HP recovery. Once you Max out Orthworm’s Defense stat with three Iron Defensesit will take very little damage from anything Dragonite throws at it. The only thing you have to worry about is an unlucky critical hit, which knocked out my Orthworm on my first try.

Tera-type Held item Skill Nature Movement set Electric vehicles
Stellar Shell bell Earth eater Naughty (+ Defense, – Special Attack) Iron defense
Body press
252 hp
252 Defense
Four special defenses

With its maximum defense, Orthworm can spam Body Presswhich calculates damage based on the user’s defense instead of attack. When Dragonite resets your Pokémon’s stats, simply set three extra Iron Defenses before spamming Body Press again. To further increase your damage output, consider using the “Go all out!” encouragement. Orthworm should recover plenty of HP each time it attacks thanks to the Shell Bell item.

When it came time to choose a Tera Type, I decided to go with the Stellar Tera-type was the best option for Orthworm, as it retains its useful Steel-type resistances while also getting a damage increase on Body Press.

For example, if you gave him the Fighting Tera type, the poor worm would take more damage from Dragonite’s attacks, including Hurricane’s super-effective damage.

This is the step-by-step game plan:

  • Use three iron defenses.
  • Spam Body Press.
  • Switch to Stellate Tera type as soon as possible, when Orthworm is no longer at risk of fainting.
  • When Orthworm’s stats reset, you’ll still use three Iron Defenses.
  • Spam Body Press until you defeat Dragonite.
