According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chicago Bears are benching cornerback Tyrique Stevenson for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Rapoport reported that this is a “one week” demotion resulting from Stevenson taunting fans and being slow to react to Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary pass to give the Washington Commanders a win over Chicago in Week 8.

Yesterday’s videos didn’t really show me how long Tyrique Stevenson’s taunting went on. He didn’t make a play-like move until the receivers were inside the 20! pic.twitter.com/5pnj9v0W2H

The 2023 second-round pick was met with much ridicule and criticism in the wake of the piece. Hours after the match ended, he apologized on social media.

According to Rapoport, Stevenson won’t be completely frozen out in Week 9. He remains on the active roster “and is expected to fill in for cornerback Terell Smith.” The NFL insider added that “this is expected to be the final step in the process of unwinding” from the Hail Mary.

Stevenson played in six of the Bears’ first seven games. He has 35 tackles, one interception and six pass breakups

On Sunday, Chicago will try to slow down Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray after he threw for a season-best 307 yards in a win over the Miami Dolphins last week.
