Beach Soccer takes over Siesta Key

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) -While volleyball is a common sport at Siesta Key Beach, a new sport is also taking center stage this weekend at Siesta Key Beach. Austin, Texas based Beach Blitz Soccer Resort along with Visit Sarasota County have launched the first every beach soccer tournament. Organizers said hundreds of players make up the forty teams ages from seven to 17. The traveling soccer event launched in 2002 and is finally making its way to The Sunshine State after noticing the rise in popularity of the sport. “Siesta Key is such a beautiful beach with such beautiful waters, I can’t see us not coming back here again next year,” said Beach Blitz Founder and Organizer Niall Swan.

Swan said each team on hand paid around $450 to participate with funding going toward planning and preparing for next year’s tournament along the Suncoast. Players said it’s a great way to share the love for the sport, and excellent way to promote the great things the Suncoast has to offer. “I love it, I definitely want to come back next year,” said 14-year-old Nokomis player Robbie Matroni.
