Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface makes double nutmeg before performing ‘Thierry Henry pass’ to set up goal in 4-0 win over Feyenoord

Victor Boniface didn’t need to score to impress for Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night as they returned to the Champions League.

A fine display of footwork in the run-up to the second goal in the 4-0 win over Feyenoord earned the Nigerian striker praise from his teammates – and many fans on social media.

Boniface was standing at the edge of the area when he executed two nutmegs to create some space for himself.

He then made to shoot with his right leg, but in the same movement he played the ball wide to Jeremie Frimpong with his left leg, while looking the other way.

Frimpong then passed to Alex Grimaldo, who made it 2-0 in the 30th minute.

Victor Boniface pulled off a clever trick pass during his team’s victory over Feyenoord

The attacker passed with his standing foot and the move resulted in a goal

The trick pass was made famous by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who first performed it against Middlesbrough in 2006. According to Florian Wirtz, it has also become a signature move for his team-mate.

“That’s his signature move,” Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz said of Boniface. “I think he’s the best in world football at that.”

Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso called it a ‘Boni trick’ after the match

“If it works out we’re happy,” Alonso said of the skill Boniface shows a lot in training, “and if it doesn’t work out we have to take it a bit easier.”

Wirtz scored the first and third goals for Leverkusen, who captured the attention of the football world last season by remaining unbeaten in Germany, winning both the league title and the cup and also reaching the Europa League final.

It was Wirtz’s Champions League debut. “We were just happy to be back in the Champions League,” the Germany international told DAZN. “I didn’t expect to finish with two goals, but I had two chances and I took them both.”
