Battlefield sleuth apparently identifies location teased in first piece of concept art for next game

Earlier this week, EA took the first steps toward revealing Battlefield’s next series entry — mostly in the form of teasing chatter from series boss Vince Zampella, but also via a mysterious piece of concept art. But now, an internet sleuth believes he’s identified the real-life location in the image, potentially revealing where Battlefield is headed next.

Aside from vague talk about EA’s design goals for the new Battlefield, the only concrete piece of information Zampella shared earlier this week was that it would be moving away from the future setting of 2021’s poorly-received Battlefield 2042, and instead would be set in the “modern day.” And if internet pundits are correct, we may now have one more piece of information: that at least some of the new Battlefield’s action will take place in Gibraltar.

That’s according to content creator TacticalBrit (thanks, IGN), who combed through the smoke and fire of EA’s Battlefield concept image and successfully identified three landmarks that match Gibraltar’s real-world geography. There’s a large, multi-story parking garage (those are the two adjacent white buildings in the foreground on the left, according to Google), a series of apartment buildings on a rocky outcrop on the right, and a chunk of land jutting out into the water far in the background.

“After taking more shots of the Battlefield concept art,” TacticalBrit wrote in a social media post, “I’m almost 80 percent sure that this is in fact Gibraltar. It makes perfect sense for any game with a theoretical conflict, as Gibraltar acts as a strategic bridge between Europe and Africa.”

Assuming TacticalBrit’s deduction is correct, we now have a new bit of Battlefield information to add to the still-thin list. That list also includes Zampella’s confirmation that the new game will feature Classes in place of Battlefield 2042’s unpopular Specialist system, and that it will feature more focused maps compared to its predecessor. As for when we’re likely to find out more, that remains unclear – though Zampella did say that EA wants to get players in early, and that details on That will be shared next year. “Because that’s really the core of what we need to do,” he explained, “get the community back on our side, get that trust back.”
