Bankrupt Bradley Wiggins offers fans chance to join him on first bike ride in ‘almost three years’ for £50 each

Bankrupt cycling legend Sir Bradley Wiggins is offering fans the chance to join him on his first bike tour ‘in almost three years’ – for £50 each.

The 44-year-old five-time Olympic champion and first British winner of the Tour de France will take part in the ‘epic’ 50-mile ride through Staffordshire later this month.

Fans worried about keeping up with Sir Bradley are assured that he will ‘take it easy and visit the group for a chat and a few jokes’.

“So I get back on the bike,” he said in an Instagram video.

‘It’s good, it’s the first time in almost three years that I’m back on the bike. I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m a little nervous about whether I’m going to make it, but I think I can. I’m in pretty good shape right now, you know.

“And I’m looking forward to it, I hope to see as many of you there as possible.”

The potentially lucrative ride comes after lawyers for Sir Bradley told the Mail he had “lost everything” in a shock twist in the fortunes of one of Britain’s greatest ever Olympic athletes.

In June, Alan Sellers revealed his client was ‘sofa surfing’ after the £975,000 shed he once shared with his ex-wife Cath and their three children was seized and sold by a building society.

He has been declared bankrupt – once worth £13million – and has been forced to sell all his gold medals to pay off his debts.

Sir Bradley, who recently spoke courageously about the sexual abuse he suffered as a child from his coach, also revealed he had given up cycling, saying: ‘I don’t like the person I became when I was on a bike.’

The ‘Ride with Wiggins’ will take place on September 29.

‘And don’t worry, you won’t have to fight to keep pace with the Tour de France champion.

‘Bradley Wiggins will take it easy and let the group have a little chat every now and then.’

In an interview with disgraced seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong on the Forward Podcast last month, Sir Bradley said he “never paid attention to my financial affairs when I was racing”, allowing people to “take advantage” of him.

He said the financial “mess” he was in had been going on for “a number of years” but that “it would all work out”.

He called the suggestion that he was in fact homeless “sensationalist.”

Sir Bradley said he was sexually abused 36 times over a three-year period between the ages of 13 and 16 by his then coach, Stan Knight, who died in 2003.

“I wish I had never started cycling because then I would never have met this man,” he said.
