Australian Skateboarding Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

Reigning Olympic champion Keegan Palmer and teenage prodigy Arisa Trew will be the main act of a nine-piece Australian Skateboarding Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The selection was announced on Tuesday by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC).

Palmer won the gold medal in the men’s park skateboarding competition at Tokyo 2020 and will return for his second Summer Games. Australia’s Kieran Woolley, who finished fifth in that final, will also make his second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be making my second Australian Olympic team and representing the green and gold,” said Woolley, who finished fourth and sixth in the Olympic qualifying series in Shanghai and Budapest.

“The last few weeks have been super active and hopefully I can keep that momentum going into Paris.”

Teenagers Arisa Trew, Ruby Trew and Keefer Wilson make their Olympic debut in the park event in Paris.

Arisa Trewwho will be 14 years and 86 days old when she competes in Paris, will become the seventh-youngest Australian competitor at the Olympic Games and the youngest in 40 years since Dimity Douglas, who swam at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics at 14 years and 27 days old.

The honour of being the youngest Olympic competitor from Australia goes to rower Ian Johnson, who was 13 years and 74 days old at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

In the street event, 34-year-old Shane O’Neill will compete at the Olympic Games for the second time, while Chloe Covell, Haylie Powell and Liv Lovelace will represent Australia at the Summer Games for the first time.

The team heads to Paris with a wealth of international successes, including Arisa Trew and Keegan Palmer who both won the Olympic qualifying series in June and 14-year-old Covell who won the silver medal at the 2023 World Championships.

With nine members, Australia will field the fourth-largest skating team at the 2024 Games in Paris, after the USA (12), Brazil (12) and Japan (10).

The Paris 2024 street skate competition will be held on July 27 and 28, while the park events will take place on August 6 and 7 at La Concorde.
