Australian Open 2024 leveraged AI for broader audience reach: customer experience

The 2024 Australian Open saw the major sporting event leverage new technologies to expand its audience reach, player performance insights and content creation, with tools adopted for France’s Roland Garros.

The major tennis event took place early this year and used Infosys’ AI-based tools to enhance the fan experience through digital technologies.

Craig Tiley, CEO of Tennis Australia and Tournament Director of the Australian Open, said at the time: “Over the past six years, Infosys has helped Tennis Australia raise the bar and deliver new experiences to fans using digital technologies. We’re excited to see which leaps will be made with AI at AO 2024.

“AI enables new dimensions of interactivity for fans and insight for players, not to mention the speed and scale it brings to our content delivery.”

Raghavan Subramanian, associate vice president and head of Infosys tennis platform, said the Digital Nation platform used included the AI Bracket Challenge, Match Center and Infosys AI Videos.

These tools have recently been integrated into the French Open, known as Roland Garros, which hosts approximately 633,222 spectators.

“These innovations are designed to make the Roland Garros experience more engaging and informative for a broader audience,” said Subramanian.

Subramanian added at Roland Garros 2024 that the focus was “on using AI to improve the digital experience for fans, players, coaches and media.”

Results of the platforms included allowing fans to create “artistic renderings of famous Roland Garros posters using generative AI.”

“This sparked more interest and interaction with the history of the tournament and gave users the opportunity to explore the power of generative AI and bring out their artistic side,” said Subramanian.

Subramanian fans could also see “side-by-side video comparisons and real-time performance analysis.”

“This tool helps users danalyze and understand the gameplay nuances for their services and foundations.
