Manchester City midfielder Matheus Nunes is a potential loanee from Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s options at the Etihad could be limited following the return of club legend Ilkay Gundogan to Manchester. He returned to Manchester on a free transfer last week.

Nunes joined the Premier League champions last summer and has since made 31 appearances in all competitions without scoring a single goal for the club.

Atletico Madrid’s interest in the Portuguese midfielder comes after Julian Alvarez moved to the Spanish capital for £81million earlier this summer.

Alvarez made his debut in the starting line-up under Diego Simeone on Sunday during Atlético’s 3-0 win over Girona, a surprise last season.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have received a £21million bid from Al-Hilal for defender Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo, once a regular under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium, was loaned to Bayern Munich in January 2023 and later to Barcelona for the entirety of last season after falling out with the Spanish manager.

Cancelo is now back in Manchester and training with the multiple Premier League winners. He is considering a move to Al-Hilal. The team are reportedly just waiting for the Portuguese defender to agree to the deal.

Barcelona also remain a possibility for the 30-year-old star, who had a great time in Catalonia last season, although any offer at the Nou Camp would likely be in the form of a new loan.
