About Colorado College:

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college with 2,300 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in Teaching program. It occupies a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, “Olympic City,” Colorado Springs. The campus is located on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the base of Pikes Peak. The college utilizes an innovative curriculum approach known as the Block Plan, in which students take one course at a time for three and one-half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Division I Women’s Soccer is affiliated with the Mountain West Conference (MWC).

Summary Description:

The primary function of this position is to assist in the day-to-day operations of a highly competitive Division III program. Responsibilities for this position include leading, developing, and coaching student-athletes, effectively teaching team and individual skills related to team and player development. Recruit and retain prospective student-athletes while adhering to the Colorado College philosophy and applicable NCAA Division III and Conference Rules. Assist the Head Coach with administrative duties including travel coordination, equipment management, student-athlete support, and campus involvement and engagement through fundraising, alumni relations, clinics, and community service projects. Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling, training, and retaining lifeguards, arranging for outside hires, and maintaining relationships with local clubs and aquatic programs on campus and in the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and coach student-athletes.
  • Contribute to competitive success by effectively teaching team and individual skills related to team and player development.
  • Recruit and retain prospective student-athletes while adhering to the Colorado College philosophy and applicable NCAA Division III and conference rules.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Colorado College; support and represent the college’s mission while identifying potential student-athletes who can thrive in a championship culture that supports academic excellence.
  • Complement your Liberal Arts education by engaging your student-athletes holistically in the sport of swimming and diving. You can do this by helping them develop fundamental skills such as time management, preparation, and work ethic. These skills build confidence and directly contribute to your team’s success in competition.
  • Leverage a variety of technology platforms, video and sport-specific software programs for coaching, instruction, game preparation, completing scouting reports and performing recruiting tasks.
  • Provide assistance to the head coach with administrative duties such as coordinating travel, managing equipment, supporting student-athletes, and involving the campus in the swimming and diving program.
  • Help raise funds for the program, alumni relations, clinics, and community service projects.
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations and bylaws of the conference, the NCAA and Colorado College.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director in scheduling, training, and retaining lifeguards. Assist in obtaining outside hires and maintaining relationships with local clubs and aquatic programs on campus and in the community. Assist in communication with facility maintenance.
  • Support the Colorado College Athletics Department and special events and competition organization as needed.

Required qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution plus a minimum of three years of playing/coaching experience at the college level; Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic knowledge of scouting software, recruiting software, social media platforms, and video editing software; Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity; Available to work evenings and weekends and to travel extensively, often by air. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.
