ASEAN Golf Federation elects Tan as first chairman


Singapore: Tan Chong Huat has been confirmed as the first Chairman of the ASEAN Golf Federation (AGF).

Tan, president of the Singapore Golf Association (SGA), was unanimously elected to the position at the AGF’s annual general meeting, which took place this week alongside the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championships.

During the meeting, it was confirmed that the Philippines will host the 62nd edition of the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championship in 2025.

As such, Martin LorenzoPresident of the National Golf Association of Philippines (NGAP), will take over the chairmanship of AGF from Tan for the coming year.

As Chairman of AGF, Tan will be responsible for overseeing the strategic development of golf in ASEAN and will provide leadership and direction to the federation for a period of four years.

He is assisted by the Vice-President Vu Nguyenwho is also vice-chairman of the Vietnam Golf Association (VGA).

Tan said: “I am very grateful for the privilege of serving the ASEAN Golf Federation and am honoured to have the support of all members as I begin my term.

“There is definitely huge potential in the golf landscape in ASEAN. Together with all members, we will continue to build the entire ecosystem, which will benefit all countries in the region.”

Vu added: “I look forward to working closely with Mr Tan to take golf in ASEAN to the next level.

“We will continue to strengthen our unity and ensure equal opportunities for all Member States, while taking advantage of the promising golf landscape in this region.”
