As it should be – Jon Rahm thinks countries should be able to choose who they want to send to the Olympics, wants golf to become a team event

Let me be very clear, when it comes to the Ryder Cup, Presidents Cup or the Olympics, I don’t give a damn about LIV vs PGA. It’s going to be an American thing. I want our best golfers there because I want to win. If it’s Bryson, Xander and Scottie, so be it. If it’s a combination, so be it. Just wear the red, white and blue and beat the crap out of everybody. So I agree with Jon Rahm (who plays for Spain) that we should do away with the OWGR and make it a selection process. I know Wyndham Clark won the US Open last year, but nobody thinks he’s one of the best players the US has to offer, yet he’s in the Olympics because of the OWGR.

More importantly, it’s time to move away from the old shit we’re used to seeing. The 72-hole stroke play tournament is every week. Mix it up. Make it like the Ryder Cup with best ball, alternate stroke, a singles match somehow. Throw in a scramble for fun. I don’t care, just give us something other than 72-hole individual stroke play. We rarely get team events outside of those big events and the Zurich Classic.

I know people are going to say this is what happens when you join LIV. It’s part of the punishment, whatever. Again, we’re talking about the Olympics here. There has to be a better way to send players to the Olympics than just OWGR. We’ll find ways for team events to have a selection process for players. That’s how it should be for golf. Let’s make it an individual and team event. Give me match play for the individual medal and something for the team event.
