Arturo Vidal and other Colo Colo players have been investigated in Chile for alleged sexual abuse

SANTIAGO, Chile — Chilean authorities said Monday they are investigating a case of alleged sexual abuse involving Colo Colo soccer club players, including former international Arturo Vidal.

A public prosecutor in Santiago said the incident took place at a bar in the Chilean capital’s chic Vitacura neighborhood. It also added that a woman alleged her sister was drugged and sexually assaulted by Colo Colo players.

A local police officer told reporters that 37-year-old Vidal was taken to a police station in Vitacura where he underwent “an identity check.” That’s standard procedure for crime suspects.

Vidal, who was released after the investigation, did not comment on the incident.

Police also said other players went through similar procedures and testified about the incident.

Also on Monday, a court in Santiago released another former Chile international.

Jorge Valdivia was arrested on October 22 during a rape investigation. Valdiva, 41, was accused of raping a woman two days earlier.

Valdivia denied any wrongdoing.
