Arson suspected in fire at newly renovated home, SAFD says

About $50,000 in property damage to the home

SAN ANTONIO – A house fire near downtown is being investigated as arson, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

The fire started at the intersection of Benton Street and Stafford Street on Saturday around 8 p.m.

A recently renovated home for sale had a mattress set on fire in the living room, SAFD said.

When the fire brigade arrived on scene, no one was in the home.

The flames were extinguished within 15 minutes, officials said. However, smoke damage remains throughout the house.

Officials said there is approximately $50,000 in property damage to the home.

There were no injuries.
