Arsenal target unlikely to stay at Lille

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has admitted he believes Jonathan David is unlikely to sign a new contract with his current club Lille, given his links with Arsenal and other big names.

The Canadian international recently spoke openly about his future, seemingly suggesting he is open to staying at Lille and signing a new contract. However, a report from TuttoJuve has also linked him with big European clubs such as Arsenal and Juventus.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside In his latest column for the Daily Briefing, Romano gave his current insight into David’s situation, indicating that he did not think it was likely that the 24-year-old would commit his future to his current club.

However, it seems that this story is still in its early stages, as Romano has not yet named any specific clubs that could sign David, and expects him to take his time to consider his options before making a decision on his next move.

Romano gave an update on David’s future, saying: “Jonathan David has said he is open to signing a new contract at Lille, but I don’t think that’s likely based on what I know.

“The situation for his future is more open than limited to a new deal with Lille. He will explore different options before deciding anything, so I think there are still a few long months ahead of him to consider all the possibilities, and there is nothing specific with other clubs to mention yet.”

Arsenal currently have a weak forward line after deciding not to sign a new striker in the summer, leaving them to rely on Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus in that position.

Although Havertz is in excellent form, he is not necessarily a true number 9. Jesus has issues with both his fitness and form, so there is certainly room for someone like David. And the fact that he is set to become a free agent certainly makes him an attractive option for Arsenal and other big clubs.
