Arkansas Continues to Stack Portal Talent in Preparation for MLB Draft

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas continues to collect Division I transfers for the upcoming season. Infielder Michael Anderson, who played for Rhode Island in 2024, announced on Instagram on Sunday that he wants to play for the Razorbacks.

Anderson, a native of Havertown, Pennsylvania, committed to Rhode Island after being ranked the No. 4 first baseman from Pennsylvania for the class of 2022 and the No. 500 overall prospect by Perfect Game.

In 2024, Anderson hit .250/.423/.571 in 48 games with 13 homers. He also made two appearances as a pitcher in 2023, but was limited to first base duty in his sophomore year.

Anderson is Dave Van Horn’s seventh position player to be drafted out of the Division I transfer portal, and the ninth overall. Van Horn recently spoke about the importance of having big numbers out of the portal to protect himself against the MLB draft.

“You almost have to over-recruit some of these older guys that are in the portal,” Van Horn said. “When you get a bunch of guys that are draft-eligible, they can say one thing, but realistically, if someone offers them, they’re probably going to sign.”
