Arizona volleyball sets 2024 non-conference schedule

Arizona volleyball posted its first Big 12 Conference schedule in early April, but the Wildcats were still finalizing their non-conference schedule at the time. It’s now posted.

The season kicks off on Friday, August 30th with the Cactus Classic at McKale Center. The Wildcats will begin their first home tournament with a game against Boise State at 6:00 p.m. They will then play VCU on Saturday and Tennessee State on Sunday.

Arizona heads to Montgomery, Ala. for the second week of the season. It plays host Alabama State on Thursday, September 5. Prairie View A&M is scheduled for Friday, September 6 and Alabama on Saturday, September 7.

The Wildcats remain on the road to compete in the New Mexico State Tournament in Week Three. They play both Abilene Christian and Texas Southern on Friday, September 13, and wrap things up with the host Aggies on Saturday, September 14.

UA finally returns to McKale Center for the Wildcat Classic on Friday, September 20 to complete the non-conference portion of the schedule. The weekend starts against Southern Utah. UC San Diego is next on Saturday and North Dakota State wraps it up on Sunday, September 22.

The Wildcats open their first Big 12 season on Wednesday, September 25 when they visit Baylor.

Arizona Head Coach Rita Stubbs gave her team a significantly easier challenge in non-conference play this year. Her first season saw five teams make the NCAA tournament, including then-No. 1 Wisconsin along the way. The team then entered the tough Pac-12. The result was an 8-23 overall record and a 3-17 run in the Pac-12’s final year.

This year, the Wildcats will play only one team that made the 2023 tournament in conference play. Their only major conference opponent is Alabama, which went 11-18 overall and 1-17 in the SEC last year.
