Ariana Grande channels Glinda on SNL in a vintage Mugler dress

Wash it Ariana Grande or Glinda who hosted Saturday evening live last night?

As the pop superstar took the stage for her monologue, she embraced her pink palette Bad character in a bewitching strapless dress. And unlike the A fresh JW Anderson mini dress from the catwalk she recited earlier this week SNL promotions, her magenta dress was pulled from the archives – archives that only a few, including Grande, could ever have access to.

In honor of her third time as host SNLGrande wore a dress from Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1982 collection. A corseted top and a dramatic sweetheart neckline accentuated the garment’s eccentric silhouette, which then flowed into a voluminous tulip skirt that tapered to the singer’s calves. She kept her accessories minimal to keep all the focus on her vintage dress, and wore a pair of pointed fuchsia pumps to complete her look.

The same logic was applied to Grande’s hair and makeup. She swept her blonde locks back into a sleek bun and opted for a simple glam with black eyeliner, a hint of pink blush and a matching glossy lip. “I want to make one thing clear tonight,” she said during her monologue-turned-musical number. “I’m just going to keep it quiet.” After all, what could be more demure than Grande wearing a rare vintage dress?

She and her stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, have created the Bad press tour with a range of perfectly pink looks. While the Mugler dress is a clear highlight, the singer and actor has also turned his attention to thematic designs Oscar de la Renta, LoeweAnd Thom Browneproving that whimsical fashion exists outside of Oz.
