Argentinians with podium chances at the Olympic Games

The Argentine delegation that traveled to Paris to participate in the Olympic Games, which begin on Friday the 26th, consists of 136 athletes who are looking to increase the country’s medal count. Currently, Argentina has 77 medals: 21 gold, 26 silver and 30 bronze. Below are some athletes to watch during the games.

Julián Álvarez, football. “The Spider” is a standout in the Argentina national football team, which strengthens its under-23 squad fresh from a Copa América victory. In addition to Julián, the other two players over 23 who were in the Olympic squad were also in Qatar: goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli and defender Nicolás Otamendi. The team will make its debut on Wednesday 24 at 15:00 (10:00 local time) against Morocco.

Los Pumas Sevens, rugby. They are strong contenders for the podium after a historic season in their category. In Paris 2024, she will carry the flag of Argentina. Las Leonas start their campaign on Saturday 27 at 19:45 against the United States.

Francisco Cerúndolo, tennis. He has made great strides in the international circuit. With an aggressive style of play, the highest-ranked Argentine on the ATP rankings has proven to be a serious competitor in high-level tournaments. The first round of tennis will take place between Saturday 27 and Sunday.

Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco, sailing. This duo has potential for a medal. Their excellent performance at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023, where they dominated their category, gives reason for optimism. The regattas are scheduled for Saturday 3 and Wednesday 7 August.

Agustín Vernice, canoeist. He wants to surpass his last performance in Tokyo 2020, where he earned an Olympic diploma. Swimmer Macarena Ceballos is also aiming for a final in the 100m breaststroke. Vernice will compete on Wednesday 7 August and Ceballos on Sunday 28 August at 11:00.

Luciano de Cecco, volleyball. The national team captain is another athlete to watch. He has competed in three Olympic Games and won a historic bronze medal in Tokyo 2020. The team makes its debut on Saturday 27 at 9:00 p.m. against the United States.

Diego Simonet, handball. Known as “El Chino”, he is the heart and soul of the handball team. His experience and leadership on the field are invaluable, making him a crucial player for the national team.
