Arcane creators admit rumors about the five-season series were “stupidity.”

The creators of Arcane have finally put the five-season long rumors about the animated show to bed, declaring them to be mere “stupidity.”

The second and final season of Arcane is just around the corner, with the first three episodes dropping now on Netflix and the remaining six releasing throughout the rest of November 2024.

Prior to the launch of the final season, it was revealed that the show cost a whopping $250 million to produce, making it by far the most expensive animated series of all time.

A November 6, 2024 report from Variety claimed that Riot “initially budgeted for a five-season arc” but decided to end the show after season two due to production costs.

However, Arcane co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee put these rumors to rest once and for all in an interview with TechRadar, confirming that the two-season arc was the plan “from the beginning.”

Furthermore, Linke even admitted that the rumor started as a result of a prank played on him when they first created the series.

Arcane season two will be the final outing for the award-winning series.

Once the initial pilot and first few episodes were shot, Linkle explained that they still had not been given the green light to create an entire season. As such, Nicolo Laurent, the previous CEO of Riot Games, decided to prank Linkle with bad news.

“Nicolo thought it would be really funny to pull me into a room and say, ‘Hey, I know you haven’t had the green light yet, and I’ve decided I’m not going to give it to you.’ I sat there and looked quite upset before he added, “Because I’m giving you permission for five seasons!”

Yee doubled down on the idea that Vi and Jinx’s story would always end in two seasons, revealing how “the story that concludes this season is the story we plotted with the rest of the team from the beginning.”

The co-creator explained, “I think we had thought of ways for it to go further, but another season was the milestone we always wanted to achieve.”

Linke then said, “Long story short: five seasons was nothing but foolishness on our part.”

Arcane Season 2 Part 1 is currently streaming on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on November 16 and the third and final part will be released on November 23.
