No one had a better formula for success in a chaotic Week 6 of the college football season than Texas: Just don’t play.

The Longhorns sat at home and watched five of the top 11 teams in the county fall. What seemed like a relatively tame series of games turned out to be anything but.

Thanks to the unrest, Texas regained the top spot in the Associated Press Top 25 poll.

No result was more shocking than Vanderbilt’s 40-35 loss to No. 1 Alabama.

The Commodores were previously 0-60 against Top-Five opponents, while the Crimson Tide picked up a blowout win over Georgia, seemingly cementing their status as a contender.

Defying history, Vanderbilt jumped out to a 23-7 lead in the first half and held on in the second half as Alabama mounted a comeback. Diego Pavia’s touchdown pass to Kamrean Johnson on third down with 5:07 left was the decisive point in the game. Ryan Williams’ two-yard touchdown run narrowed the Tide’s deficit, but they couldn’t get the ball back and watched Vandy run out the clock.

While Commodores fans aren’t used to celebrating big wins this way, they knew exactly how to enjoy Saturday’s triumph.

Arkansas fans were unable to take down the goalposts at Razorback Stadium and had to settle for storming the field after a 19-14 win over No. 4 Tennessee.

It was potentially a huge result for Razorbacks head coach Sam Pittman. His chair seemed to be quite warm this year after a 4-8 campaign, and now the Hogs have already matched that win total.

Say what you will about Sam Pittman’s job security, but this Arkansas team is all about him.

Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek, op @CBSSportsafter storming the field with the Arkansas fans: “I love Sam Pittman. He gets a lot of crap, but that guy is a great football coach. He should get some credit for tonight’s win.”
Happy to pay fine for field storm?
“Hell yeah!”

Nico Iamaleava’s shares are heading in the opposite direction. The Tennessee quarterback had his second straight passing game under 200 yards entering the second half, and Saturday’s loss ended with him running out of bounds instead of saying a prayer in the end zone.

from Iamaleava bid from outsider because the Heisman Trophy is on hold for the time being.

The upsets of Missouri, Michigan and USC were a bit surprising, but not entirely shocking considering how they all performed.

The magnitude of the Tigers’ 41-10 hammering at the hands of Texas A&M raised eyebrows. Trailing 34-0 midway through the third quarter, the Aggies saw the Aggies double their yards, 512 to 254.

Missouri’s narrow wins over Boston College and Vanderbilt proved to be warning signs.

The 10th-ranked Wolverines weren’t even betting favorites by the time they kicked off against unranked Washington. It was only a matter of time before their lack of a passing game would be their downfall again. Head coach Sherrone Moore benched Alex Orji midway through the game, leaving replacement Jack Tuttle to go 10-for-18 for 98 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

It’s abundantly clear that the reigning national champions are fatally flawed, and disappointing in every way.

Washington beats Michigan 27-17.
Outdated UM 429-287. No coincidence.
Expected UM’s offense to struggle after losing their starters, but this goes beyond that.
Most surprising are the weak fundamentals of the defense, including tackling, and stupid penalties.
Coaching a problem.

As much as the anxiety has increased in Ann Arbor, it pales in comparison to the frustration of USC fans who have watched the program make little tangible progress under head coach Lincoln Riley.

The Trojans may reasonably ask whether there was enough evidence to overturn the original on-field decision after the officials ruled that Minnesota’s Max Brosmer fell short of the goal line on 4th and 1 in the final minute.

But USC has only itself to blame for being in a position where the Golden Gophers were able to take the lead so late.

Especially with the expansion to twelve teams, missing the College Football Playoff will be a disaster for USC. With each passing week, the worst-case scenario moves closer to reality.

Looking ahead, Week 7 simply can’t match the drama of Week 6, but there are some juicy matchups planned.

Oregon is home to the state of Ohio. Ole Miss heads on the road to play LSU. Penn State can cause more misery for USC at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Texas and Oklahoma travel to Dallas for the next installment of the Red River Rivalry. Colorado has a chance to show its three-game winning streak is real when it plays Kansas State.

College football fans will want to make sure they get their business done by noon next Saturday as there will be too many big games to follow.
