Anthony Albanese announces cabinet reshuffle

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Andrew Giles has been removed from his portfolio and will replace Brendan O’Connor as Minister for Skills and Training.

Announcing changes to his ministry and assistant ministry, the prime minister said Giles, the current Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, would bring “the experience that he has” to fill the vacancy left by O’Connor’s retirement.

Senator Jenny McAllister will become Minister of Cities and Minister of Emergency Management.

Matt Thistlethwaite will become the next Assistant Minister for Immigration, while Patrick Gorman will take on the roles of Assistant to the Prime Minister, Assistant Minister for Public Services and Assistant Minister to the Attorney General.

The latest changes include the appointment of Ged Kearney as Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and as Assistant Minister for Indigenous Health.

Senator Tim Ayres is made Assistant Minister for a Future in Australia and Assistant Minister for Trade.
