Anne Williams Golf Day returns to raise money for Sefton Baby Baskets

The Anne Williams Memorial Golf Day will take place for the 12th time on Friday, July 5. Amateur golfers will then start in the name of a good cause.

The event is a tribute to Anne Williams, a Formby mother who spent years campaigning for her 15-year-old son Kevin and the 97 supporters who died in the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

Anne passed away in 2013 after a battle with cancer. The event raises money for small charities across Merseyside, with a different charity being chosen each year.

This year’s charity is Sefton Baby Baskets, an organisation that aims to help families in need with new baby supplies by providing a Moses basket filled with everything they need. Organiser Steve Martin believes it was the perfect charity to choose.

He told The Anfield Wrap: “We go out every day to people who are making a huge difference to their communities and the people they support.

“This year’s charity, Sefton Baby Baskets; we have a checklist that we use when we select our charities. Not only have they ticked the boxes that we have, they have ticked boxes that we didn’t know existed.

“They are so small and do such a great job helping families, especially parents who are struggling in Liverpool, but if they got a case from someone else and they were willing to help them, they would.

“Their goal is to provide families, mothers and fathers with baby baskets with necessities for that newborn baby. This charity is so humble, so small, and it’s everything we want to support.”
