Angel Reese claims he’s been harassed by Caitlin Clark fans: ‘People have come to my address’

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark are simultaneously having two of the best rookie seasons in WNBA history, which is just the latest chapter in their story together.

According to Reese, that history has led to horrible behavior from Clark’s fans toward her.

On the premiere episode of her new podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” Reese was asked by co-host Maya Reese (no relation) about Clark, with whom she’s clashed twice during their college careers. Reese did her best to praise Clark before alleging that her fans have harassed her in ways that included death threats, following her home and fabricating nude photos of her via AI, some of which were sent to her family.

Reese’s response:

“Caitlin is a great player and I’ve always thought she was a great player. We’ve been playing against each other since high school. So I think it’s really just the fans — her fans, the Iowa fans, now the Indiana fans — that drive for her and I respect that, respectfully, but sometimes it’s very disrespectful.

“I think there’s a lot of racism when it comes down to it and I don’t think she had anything to do with that. But when it comes to death threats, like, I’m talking about people coming to my address, following me home, that’s what it’s come down to. Multiple times, people have literally taken AI photos of me naked. They’ve sent them to my family members. My family members are, like, uncles, they’re sending them to me, like, “Oh, are you naked on Instagram?”

“It’s horrible to see and it’s very difficult that I have to go through something like that, and now that other players have to go through something like that.”

Reese reiterated her respect for Clark and even promised that they would one day be teammates:

“At the end of the day, it’s a game we both love, but there’s no hate. We’re going to play on the same team one day, I know that for sure. We’re definitely going to play on the same team one day.”

Clark has quickly become the biggest name in women’s basketball, which is great for the league’s ratings, but not so much for the volume of discourse surrounding her. Months ago, she lambasted “fans” who used her name to advance bigoted agendas regarding her opponents.

Reese and Chicago Sky in particular have claimed to see the ugly side of Clark’s attention, particularly after Chennedy Carter gave Clark an unnecessary shoulder check and refused to answer questions about it. It was one of several hard fouls Clark has received this season.

While many condemned Carter’s actions during and after that match, the team alleged that one individual took it further by harassing her in a team hotel. A subsequent video showed the individual merely attempting to ask Carter questions, but a Sky player said the video had been edited to prevent him from saying far more profane things, such as “ghetto b****.”

Another Sky player, Diamond DeShields, hit out at Clark and later shared a story in which she said she hoped the tumour in her spinal cord would return.

Reese and LSU defeated Clark’s Iowa team in last year’s national championship game, with Reese becoming a national talking point after famously challenging Clark in the game’s final seconds. Clark’s profile has continued to rise since then, and Reese’s has too.

The conversation surrounding the two players has only gotten louder now that they are the top two players in the running for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. Clark is the favorite as she is on pace to post the most assists ever in a WNBA season, the third-most 3-pointers made and the only two rookie triple-doubles in WNBA history, along with leading the Fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

However, Reese already holds the WNBA single-season record for rebounds and the league’s longest double-double streak.

The WNBA wanted both players to become stars, and so far, that wish has been granted. However, it has not been a story without turbulence, and it is unfair to either player that Reese is going about what she claims.
