Angel Gomes: Former Manchester United midfielder ‘completely fine’ after head injury

Lille midfielder Angel Gomes says he is “back home” and “everything is fine” after suffered a serious head injury during the Ligue 1 match against Reims on Saturday.

The 23-year-old London-born player was taken to hospital after colliding with Reims defender Amadou Kone, who was subsequently sent off for the foul.

There was a 34-minute delay as Gomes, who came through Manchester United’s youth academy, received treatment on the pitch.

His club later said he was conscious and on Sunday Gomes added:, external “I am being taken care of and I feel good.

“It was a crazy crash. These things happen, but the most important thing is that I’m OK.”

Gomes also thanked all the medical staff who treated him and both groups of supporters.

Both home and away fans sang Gomes’ name as he received treatment at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in Reims.

“The support is overwhelming,” Gomes added. “PS, remind me not to jump for more headers!”

Lille defeated Reims 2-0 in the season opener.
