An Israeli drone strike kills six women and children from the same family in eastern Lebanon

BEIRUT

According to Lebanese media reports, six women and children from the same family were killed and eight others injured in an Israeli drone strike on the Nabi Anam neighborhood of Baalbek, eastern Lebanon.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the Israeli army carried out the attack at 5:50 a.m. local time (02:50 GMT), targeting Ali Abdo Othman’s home in a densely populated residential area.

The strike destroyed the building and damaged nearby houses, resulting in the deaths of six women and children of the Othman family, while eight other residents suffered injuries ranging from critical to minor, the news agency said.

The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, the report said.

The agency said local civil protection teams worked to extinguish the fires at the targeted house and assisted in rescue operations, recovering bodies from the rubble.

Volunteers from the Islamic Health Authority, the Lebanese Red Cross and the Palestinian Shifa Association also took part in the search and rescue efforts, it added.

Israel has waged a massive air campaign in Lebanon against what it claims are Hezbollah targets since September 23, killing more than 1,500 people and forcing more than 1.34 million to flee.

The air campaign is an escalation of a year of cross-border warfare between Israel and the Lebanese group since the start of its offensive on the Gaza Strip, in which Israel has killed more than 42,600 people, most of them women and children, since a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas last October.

Israel expanded the conflict on October 1 this year by launching an incursion into southern Lebanon.
