An appeals trial will be held by the brother and his wife, who were sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial for embezzling about 6.2 billion won, including broadcaster Park Soo-hong’s appearance fee.

At 4 pm on the 25th, the Seoul High Court will hold the third hearing on Park Soo-hong’s brother and brother-in-law Lee, who were indicted on charges of violating the law on aggravated punishment for certain economic crimes. At the third hearing on the day, a tax accountant who worked for his brother’s company will serve as a witness.

Park and his wife were put on trial for embezzling 6.2 billion won, including company money and his brother’s personal funds, while exclusively in charge of his younger brother’s management from 2011 to 2021.

Earlier, at the first trial held in February, the court sentenced his brother Park and his brother Lee to two terms in prison and acquitted them, respectively. He admitted that he embezzled 720 million won from Management LaL and 1.36 billion won from Media Boom. However, Park was found not guilty of embezzling his younger brother’s personal property. Both Park Soo-hong’s brother and the prosecution appealed against this.

Park Soo-hong appeared as a witness at the second trial of the appeals court in July and said, “I felt sorry and saddened by the results, with embezzlement limited to tax evasion and personal embezzlement not guilty.”

He said, “What was so unfair was that I paid 100% of the sales. I could have gone to another agency, but I trusted and loved him because he was a family member. He said that his (old brother) life goal is money from an early age and that he will not pass on poverty to his children. He was the only one who relied on him and always acted frugally.

He said, “I was grateful that he was a more reliable brother than anyone else because there were many disputes between the agency. I always told him that I was living for me, and I didn’t doubt him because I had absolute trust, he said. “It’s my fault that I was ignorant, but when I opened the lid, it was terrible enough to want to die.”
