Amit Mishra slams Virat Kohli over Sanju Samson’s exclusion

Sanju Samson, the talented wicketkeeper, has not yet been given a regular chance in the Indian cricket team. He is also in the squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, he has not played a single match during the World Cup. Rishabh Pant was in the playing XI when India won the 2024 T20 World Cup unbeaten. Now, Samson is one of the run-getters in the series against Zimbabwe and also scored a century in his last ODI against South Africa. However, there are chances that he may still be dropped for the upcoming series.

He leads Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and has a huge fan following on social media. The fans have been vocal about him not getting a chance in the Indian cricket team. Now, legspinner Amit Mishra has revealed that Samson will not play in the next T20 World Cup in 2026 unless he produces some extraordinary performances.

Mishra claimed that Samson is too old and that the selection committee usually picks young players for the ninth T20I team. By the time the 2026 T20 World Cup kicks off, Samson will be 31. He also took a sly dig at former India captain Virat Kohli, saying that he had introduced a policy of not including old players in the T20I line-up. He also said that Kohli played his last T20I at the age of 35.

Amit Mishra said: “I don’t think so. He is old now. There is such a big influx of youngsters into the team that this concept has been introduced by Virat Kohli – that in T20Is youngsters perform more, India needs them more. He is 35 himself.”

It remains to be seen whether Samson will get regular opportunities in the Indian limited overs line-up in the future.
