Amid criticism, Tyreek Hill challenges sprinter Noah Lyles to race

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has taken aim at Noah Lyles, challenging the Olympic 100-meter gold medalist to a race on social media on Sunday.

The speedy Hill was apparently unimpressed by Lyles’ victory in the men’s 100-meter final at the Paris Olympics on August 4. On Monday, he took issue with Lyles’ statement on the “Up & Adams” podcast that Super Bowl champions are not “world champions.” The sprinter has previously made the same comment to NBA champions.

Hill posted a message on social media on Sunday encouraging Lyles to sign a contract and compete against him in the 50-yard dash.

“Sign the contract and commit to that 50-yard race…” Hill wrote.

Hill’s challenge followed Lyles’ criticism of the Dolphins wideout on “Nightcap” with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson in an episode posted Saturday.

“Tyreek is just chasing power,” Lyles said. “Anytime someone comes up fast, he tries to race them. If he really wanted to race people, he would have shown up like DK Metcalf. And that guy raced the 60 meters in the Masters division this year. That guy dodges smoke. I don’t have time for that.

“He’s challenging me. We’re racing in the 100, we can race. If he’s really serious about it. If he’s really serious about it, and I’m not talking about you, I’m just talking on the internet … you’ll see me on the track.”

Lyles also ridiculed Hill during an interview with NBC Sports on Friday by claiming he didn’t know who he was.

Hill said on the “Up & Adams” podcast that he could beat Lyles in a race.

“I’m not going to beat him by much, but I will beat Noah Lyles,” Hill said.

Hill, a two-time state track champion as a high school senior, showed his speed in March 2023 by winning the 60-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Masters Indoor Championships in 6.7 seconds.
