American Caroline Marks leads eight women who advance from the opening round of the Olympic competition in Teahupo’o

Heat 4: Caitlin Simmers wins over Tatiana Weston-Webb and Molly Picklum

All eyes were on the talented heat four, featuring three of the current top 10 female surfers in the world. In a dramatic conclusion to the heat, Team USA’s Caitlin is simmering ahead of Brazil Tatiana Weston-Webb.

The action was non-stop, with Simmers piling on deep 6-point barrel rides to earn a combined heat score of 12.93, Weston-Webb overtakes for the win. Weston-Webb had led for most of the heat but finished second with a total of 10.33.

Australia’s Molly Picklum was in the running, with a score of 5.77 in the single wave, but she could not improve her score in the second wave and finished with a 8.44.

Heat 5: Brisa Hennessy wins over Johanne Defay and Candelaria Resano

Costa Rica’s Brisa Hennessy took on Teahupo’o with a no-hand, backside barrel early in the heat for a 8.50 golf score, and then supported it with a 6.50The result was a heat win and the third highest combined total of the day. 15.56.

France’s Johanne Defay endured a brutal elimination early in the heat but came back strong to finish with a combined score of 9.50. Nicaragua’s Candle holder Resano achieved a nice score of 6.00 waves, but could not confirm this with another big score, and ended with a total of 9.43.

Heat 6: Luana Silva wins over Camilla Kemp and Taina Hinckel

The sixth heat was an evenly matched battle between three parties, with Brazil being the best. Luana Silva get the best of the field with the highest golf score of 4.50 to get the winning combined score of 7.27.

Fellow Brazilian Taina Hinckel took second place with a score of 5.73, followed by Germany Camilla Kempwhich ended with a 2.80.
