Alma man charged with murder in death of Fort Smith teen | The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

FORT SMITH – The man accused of fatally hitting a 13-year-old boy with his vehicle earlier this month has been arrested for a second time in connection with the incident.

Craig Asplund, 61, of Arkansas 282 in Alma, turned himself in to police Tuesday evening after learning that a warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with negligent homicide, according to a news release from the Fort Smith Police Department.

Asplund was released from the Sebastian County Detention Center on $25,000 bail Tuesday evening. According to the detention center’s list of inmates, his court date has been set for October 30.

Asplund was originally arrested on October 11 on a charge of driving under the influence – drugs, a misdemeanor, and was released from the detention center the next day on a $1,500 bond.

Police responded to a car-pedestrian crash at Kelley Highway and 44th Street on October 11 around 5 p.m. A seventh-grader at Kimmons Middle School died from injuries sustained in the wreck.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to the press release.
