Allegations of assault, search, nursing student, death, foul play, rags, assault, financial irregularities, suicide

Thiruvananthapuram: The family of a nursing student who died after falling from a hostel building in Pathanamthitta has alleged foul play. Ammu Sajeev (22), a fourth-year student of Chuttippara Government Nursing College in Pathanamthitta, died on Friday evening after falling from the third floor of the hostel building. Ammu was a resident of Ayiroopara here.

Her family alleged that Ammu was regularly subjected to murder and character assassination. They also alleged that her classmates tried to break into her room while she was sleeping and that teachers supported such behavior.

According to the family, Ammu was under immense mental stress and her classmates had tried to physically attack her. They further accused the college and students of trying to justify her death, stating that the problems started when Ammu was appointed as the travel coordinator.

“Ammu faced problems since she became the tour coordinator. She had decided not to tour and was planning to move to Chennai to stay with her brother. She was called out of her classroom, taken to the washroom and beaten. Though she reported this to a teacher, the matter was brushed aside,” Ammu’s mother Radhamani alleged.

The family had also filed complaints about the problems at the college. Ammu had said that three students were issued memos as a result. She was blamed for the disappearance of a logbook, which added to her stress. Despite students entering her room without permission and conducting searches, nothing was found. “These actions caused her significant mental distress, and she could no longer tolerate it,” Radhamani said.

Radhamani added that she could not visit her daughter as her husband was recovering from angioplasty. “Ammu suffered from allergies and migraines and regularly visited the hospital. The tour was scheduled for December. The girls had committed financial irregularities during a medical camp organized by the college. Fearing exposure, they may have harmed Ammu,” she alleged.

Ammu’s brother Akhil Sajeev alleged that three students were responsible for her death. “My sister would not kill herself and there is foul play. “I will do everything I can to ensure justice,” he said.

Akhil also said that Ammu told him about a fellow student who was preparing to attack her. “I work in Chennai and had already booked tickets to bring her here. Initially we were told she had just fallen. She was taken to hospital by ambulance without proper facilities. The college and students conspired to harm her. Ammu was aware of financial irregularities by students. She was terrified of even small heights; How could she climb so high? No first aid was provided after the incident. She didn’t commit suicide or accidentally slip. The real cause of her death must be revealed,” he said.

Ammu, who was seriously injured in the fall, was first taken to Pathanamthitta General Hospital by her teachers and classmates. After informing the family, she was taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in an ICU ambulance. However, she succumbed to her injuries.
