Alex Shelley WWE: Signing Rumors Explained

The Motor City Machine Guns, consisting of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, became free agents on April 1 after leaving TNA Wrestling.

This immediately led to rumors of a possible signing by All Elite Wrestling (AEW), but as time passed without confirmation, eyes turned to another real possibility: WWE.

Alex Shelley WWE Interest and Negotiations

Recent reports from, among others, PWN on Discord suggesting that Shelley and Sabin are in talks with WWE.

While specific details remain scarce, WWE’s interest appears genuine. WWE superstar Tommaso Ciampa further fueled these rumors by posting a photo of the duo on his Instagram stories.

Additionally, Alex Shelley himself has hinted at a possible WWE signing through a cryptic statement Instagram postwhich started with: “Last week I celebrated the 4th of July by having (maybe) my last match for a while at @beyondwrestling.”

Social Media Tips and Speculations

Fans were surprised by Shelley’s Instagram post, which possibly indicated he was wrestling his last matches on the independent circuit, at least “for a while.”

These types of moves are generally seen as precursors to a WWE contract, as AEW is more likely to have talent work independent dates while signed to All Elite.

What Signing the Motor City Machine Guns Means for WWE

If WWE can secure the signatures of the Motor City Machine Guns, they would be a major addition to the tag team divisions of RAW, SmackDown or NXT.

The duo are highly respected in the wrestling world and are known for their fantastic tenure in TNA, where they won multiple World Tag Team Championships.

Despite both members being over 40, they continue to perform at a high level. WWE has been successful in signing TNA veterans like AJ Styles, suggesting that Shelley and Sabin could also thrive in the WWE environment.
