Alex De Minaur’s brilliant form from 2024 continues into Wimbledon second round

Alex De Minaur has had a breakthrough year in 2024, climbing to a career-high of No. 9 in the ATP rankings in February. He later dropped out of the top 10, but after stellar performances at the French Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, and the Libema Open, which he won, he regained his No. 9 spot and went into Wimbledon as a top 10 seed for the first time in his career.

The Australian was paired with fellow Australian James Duckworth in the first round of the Wimbledon Championship. De Minaur needed three consecutive tiebreaks to defeat Duckworth. He had a dominant first serve, winning 81% of his first service points, 16 of which were aces. The world number 9 then qualified to face Jaume Munar in the second round.
