Alberta goalie transfers to Detroit Red Wings

From Orange County to Hockeytown.

Okotoks goaltender Gage Alexander was traded by the Anaheim Ducks to the Detroit Red Wings on July 3 in exchange for forward Robby Fabbri and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

The 22-year-old Alexander, a fifth-round draft pick by the Ducks in 2021, played two seasons in the professional ranks, split between the Tulsa Oilers of the ECHL and the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.

In 2023-24, the 6-foot-1, 230-pound shot stopper had five wins and an .887 save percentage with Tulsa.

Alexander was present at the Ducks development early in the month prior to the transaction.

The Okotokian played for the Western Hockey League’s Winnipeg Ice and the Swift Current Broncos before signing his professional contract in December 2022.

As a starting hockey player, Alexander played for the Okotoks Oilers Athletic Association and played a leading role for the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers, Rockyview Raiders and Okotoks U15 AA Oilers. With the latter player he won a provincial championship in 2017.
