Adrian Wilson allegedly strangled his wife before being arrested for domestic violence

Disturbing new details have emerged about the domestic incident that led to the June 1 arrest of former NFL star and executive Adrian Wilson.

Scottsdale police documents obtained by TMZ on Wednesday show that Wilson threatened to commit suicide after breaking items in his home following a heated argument with his wife while the couple’s children were at their Arizona home.

According to police, Wilson’s wife Alicia stated the situation began when she found out he was having an affair and found the former Cardinals defenseman filling out divorce papers she had left at the boarding house where Wilson was staying.

According to documents seen by TMZ, Wilson, 44, then confronted her in her bedroom, after which the situation became more serious.

Alicia alleged that Wilson threw and broke multiple objects and that the former NFL safety put his hands on her — at one point choking her — and called her a “liar,” a “bitch” and a “whore” during the confrontation.

Wilson’s wife said she became scared when Wilson took a gun from a safe.

The report states that she told Wilson their children were in the house, but that this did not deter him and that he told her, “Fuck those kids.”

Alicia fled the house and eventually Wilson left the house as well. He then began calling people to tell them he was planning to commit suicide.

When he returned to his home in Scottsdale, he was arrested by local police. After speaking to authorities, he admitted to destroying items in the bedroom.

He also admitted to taking the firearm from the safe.

According to TMZ, Wilson denied ever physically approaching his wife during the argument.

He was charged with assault causing bodily injury, damaging property valued at $250 to $2,000 and disorderly conduct, all of which are misdemeanors.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 16, when he will have a virtual case management meeting.

Wilson played 12 years in the NFL for the Cardinals and after taking a scouting role with Arizona in 2015, he was named the Panthers’ vice president of player personnel in 2023.

Wilson left that role and the Panthers confirmed in a statement that he “would no longer serve in his role,” though they did not say whether the decision had anything to do with the June 1 domestic incident.
