Adam Webb: St Johnstone owner undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer

St Johnstone owner Adam Webb is being treated for head and neck cancer.

In an open letter,, external US Attorney Webb shared his health news, saying his “prognosis is very good.”

The club sacked manager Craig Levein earlier this week and majority shareholder Webb plans to oversee the appointment of a new boss before he goes on sick leave, with the aim of returning in December.

“Since I became the majority owner of the club in July, I have taken an active role as owner and chairman,” Webb said. “In a few weeks, the doctors will tell me that I can no longer continue in that active role.

“We have all our top priorities in order before that date, including the installation of our new head coach/manager. I will indeed be leading the selection of our new coach in the coming days.

“CEO Fran Smith will serve as acting chairman while I take medical leave. I have asked that we continue to work unabated on our priorities and improvements. We are off to a good start and we cannot sit still now.”

Webb said he will not be in Perth “for a while” and added that “a number of my fellow investors will be attending the games this autumn… and I will keep you updated”.

St Johnstone are tenth in the Scottish Premiership with one win from five games and visit Ross County on Saturday.
