Aberdeen set to make £7m windfall as Miovski edges closer to Girona deal

Aberdeen are set to set a club record £7million fee for the sale of Bojan Miovski to Girona.

The 25-year-old striker came on as a substitute in the dying moments of Aberdeen’s 3-1 win over St Mirren and gave an emotional farewell to the home crowd at Pittodrie after the final whistle.

The 25-year-old, who was the target of an unsuccessful bid from Girona’s Spanish rivals Espanyol and was of interest to Italian club Genoa, now becomes Aberdeen’s record signing after scoring 44 goals in 97 games for Aberdeen.

Miovski signed for MTK Budapest in June 2022 for £600,000 and is expected to fly to Spain in the next 48 hours to complete formalities for a total package worth £7million.

After goals from Pape Habib Gueye, Jamie McGrath and Vicente Besuijen to give the Dons their sixth win in six games under Jimmy Thelin, the new manager remained tight-lipped about Miovski’s future.

“I can’t say anything about that,” the Swede said. “There’s still a lot of interest in him, but that’s all I can say.”

Thelin was even more excited when he saw his team win six times from six games in all competitions since his arrival.

“There were a lot of emotions and good feelings,” he said. “It was a close game but then St Mirren scored in the last second of the first half, which can be difficult.

“The fans supported us at half-time and the players remained calm and trusted the way we have to perform together. We still have areas to improve, but they found a way to win.

‘The players are training hard and we need a strong squad and a group of players who are strong in character.’
